Ellie Pinder | Fashion Marketing and Media student.
What I’m Interested In & Inspired By:
Writing about fashion including trends, show reports and street style has always been of interest to me. I am inspired by Scandinavian design, fashion and culture. I am to visiting Copenhagen in the Spring to experience the lifestyle there first-hand. Everyday I am inspired by bloggers, online content and magazines, I’m captivated within the business and marketing side of running these as well as the growth of e-commerce sites and consumer behavioural patterns.
Sustainability within every day life as well the the fashion sector is something I am also very passionate about and am educating myself more on everyday.
What I’ve Done:
I’ve have always loved writing and mixing my love of fashion is my aspiration. For this reason I studied Art, History, Geography and Ethics & Philosophy for GCSE, on top of combined English Literature and Language, Maths and Science. For my A-Levels I moved to a different college and studied English Language, History and Media Studies.
For years I have been starting up and stopping blogs but after starting a new page and redesigning, I have finally created a personal style diary and a fashion blog that I can share my favourite pieces and discuss current trends. This allows a creative outlet for me and more importantly interaction with bloggers with the same interests and passions.
I took a gap year between college and university to earn money and experience working full time in a retail position. This allowed me to learn a variety of skills from all areas of retail including visual merchandising, turning stock around and excelling in customer service skills. This year out was really beneficial as it gave me lots of independence, wonderful friendships and an array of skills that could be applied to many roles within the fashion retail industry.
I worked at Fashion Scout at London Fashion Week A/W18 as part of the digital team as a writer. I wrote show insights, street style and sponsored pieces that are all featured on the Fashion Scout website. I adapted to the fast-paced environment and worked hard to create around 20 published pieces in the four days of Fashion Week. It was an unforgettable experience and I hope to go back next season.
What I’m Doing:
I am currently a first year Fashion Marketing and Media student at the University of Winchester studying a variety of modules ranging from; business market sectors, adopting skills within the Adobe suite, how retail and online fashion businesses operate as well as key academic and business finance skills. Currently, this semester we are engaging in the history of fashion and dress, business financial skills, marketing principles as well as essential media and journalism skills.
What I Hope To Do:
I aim to achieve a first in my degree and then potentially go on to study a masters degree in either fashion journalism at UAL or CSM. Alongside my three years at University and onwards I wish to have a successful fashion and lifestyle blog. As well as this, I am in the very early stages of working on building a student fashion news website run by myself, course mates and other aspiring journalists or fashion enthusiasts. I hope for a career within fashion journalism to create engaging content in print and digital and incorporate sustainable fashion issues as a key focus. This is to voice certain problems within the industry as well as report and celebrate the incredible culture and heritage that makes the world of fashion so profound.
