SHOW INSIGHT: SIMON MO

Day Four

Fashion Scout at London Fashion Week

Central St Martins BA womenswear graduate and environmentalist, Simon Mo, has had an impressive career within fashion design and has explored a variety of nature inspired concepts within his collections. Simon has worked with Nathan Jenson’s ‘Mask’ womenswear label in Shanghai as well as the British Fashion Council and Alexander McQueen.

This season we saw a refreshing burst of colour to end Fashion Scout A/W 18. Simon experimented with layering and asymmetric cuts, pleated two-pieces with fuchsia pink and teal geometric patterns created a non-form silhouette. An oversized pink bubblegum, ribbed knit was paired with a matching velvet turban. Teddy bear and felt textures illumined traditional A/W combinations. Nostalgic long-length coats with contrasting coloured belts and caped jackets emulated cosy, autumnal textures.

Pink ribbon neck ties and black patent kitten heels with graphic eye make-up accessorised the outfits. Simon explored pattern throughout the collection, checks and stripes were seen in lilac and teal hues. The collection was a perfect blend of tailoring and comfort immersed in a variation of colour.

Simon Mo founded his brand in 2016 and he is often inspired by the reconstruction of geometrics and patterns from nature. He uses feminine shapes and romantic patterns to create angelic yet contemporary pieces that hold the essence of the discovery of nature, history and culture.  His collections focus on comfort and modernity with playful patterns and animated silhouettes. Simon’s Autumn/Winter previous collection titled ‘Space Disco’ featured a variety of textures including velvet suits, tulle hemlines and suede and metallic bomber jackets. This season he spotlights the innocent styles that create a more elegant aura.
